Coimbatore woman hires goons through lover to kill husband, all held

Coimbatore: The Tirupur rural police have arrested eight people, one of them a woman, in the past two days in connection with the murder of a 48-year-old man who went for a morning walk on the Salem-Kochi bypass road near Avinashi on December 1. Police said the wife of the deceased was having an affair with one of the accused, who hired henchmen to kill her husband with the money raised from pledging her gold ornaments. Police said S Ramesh, 48, a financier from Mangalam Road in Avinashi, was hacked to death by a gang near Avinashi around 6am on December 1. The gang then escaped in a car. Based on his wife Vijayalakshmi's complaint, the Avinashi police registered a murder case and formed three special teams headed by as many police inspectors to nab the murderers.On Wednesday, five hired goons - P Jayaprakash, 45, of Silvarpatti in Theni district; G Gopalakrishnan, 35, of Karuvampalayam in Tirupur; R Ajith, 27, S Saran, 24, and J Sympos, 23, all natives of Mannargudi in Thiruvarur district - were arrested in the case and remanded in judicial custody. Police also seized two cars, two machetes, two mobile phones and Rs1.75 lakh from them. "The investigation revealed that it was N Syed Irfan, of Kasigoundenpudur near Avinashi, who hired the goons to murder Ramesh for Rs8.5 lakh through his associate Aravind alias Janakiraman, of Velliyampalayam in Tirupur district. Irfan was in a relationship with the wife of Ramesh for more than a year. She gave her gold ornaments to Irfan to arrange henchmen. We arrested Syed Irfan, Aravind and Ramesh's wife on Thursday. Further investigation is on."
