Coimbatore police add names of 300 rowdies to history-sheeters’ list
Coimbatore: Police have added more than 300 notorious rowdies to the list of history-sheeters to maintain law and order in the city. There are currently more than 1,300 history-sheeters in the city, and police monitor them regularly. The city police monitor history-sheeters and report their activities every month. Police also issue summons to history-sheeters who are out on bail and continue to be involved in criminal activities. They also expel them from Coimbatore city under Section 51A of the Madras City Police Act and arrest those who do not comply with the order.
According to a senior police officer, various measures are being taken to control crime and maintain law and order. As part of this, police were instructed to collect the backgrounds of rowdies. Personnel from different police stations in Coimbatore collected details of repeat offenders, and the records were examined. "We have identified 302 people as troublemakers and added them to the history-sheeters' list," the officer said. He added that officers have assigned one police officer to monitor two to three rowdies. They will track their activities daily and report to their superior. Already, 1,105 people are on the list, including 594 under the north police station limits and 511 under the south police station limits. Of these, 91 in the north and 67 in the south are in jail. Police are also separately collecting details of criminals who are out and have not committed any crime for the past 10 years, as well as those living in exile. Discussions are underway to remove such individuals from the history-sheeters list. This is expected to restrict the movement of rowdies in Coimbatore and reduce crime, the officer said.
