Rajkumar visited the corporation office on Friday after the model code of conduct was lifted by the election commission. He said, "I was neither informed about the renovation work by word of mouth nor was any document presented before me. I was asked to use another office in the JNNURM section which I refused. I have asked the engineer in charge for this to ensure that the entire furniture is brought back and my office is handed over to me as it was earlier." "It is surprising that officials allowed the renovation work to be carried out even when the model code of conduct was in place," said Rajkumar.

Refuting the mayor's charges, corporation commissioner K Vijaya Karthikeyan said, "I was informed about the renovation work and I had sanctioned it."
