Coimbatore man attempts to rape 75-year-old mother-in-law; thrashed by son, hospitalised

Coimbatore: A 51-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday for attempting to rape his 75-year-old mother-in-law at Kannappa Nagar in the city on Tuesday. He was thrashed by his son following the incident and admitted to a private hospital.

According to a police officer, the incident took place on Tuesday afternoon when the man, a labourer, was under the influence of alcohol. “He locked the main door from inside and attempted to rape his mother-in-law. The elderly woman raised an alarm, following which neighbours rushed to the house, broke open the door and rescued her.”

His 21-year-old son reached the house and severely beat his father, the officer said. The man was subsequently admitted to a private hospital.

The central all-woman police received a complaint from the elderly woman and registered a first information report against him on Tuesday night. He was remanded in judicial custody on Wednesday.
