The arrest of Hindu Munnani cadre Tamilselvan, 24, and his friend Hariharan, 25, both residents of Mettupalayam, came shortly after Subramaniam addressed the media. The Mettupalayam police said the car belonged to Harish, 21, the west urban president of Hindu Youth Front, Mettupalayam.
"He is residing on the first floor of a rental house at Kamaraj Nagar along with his family members. The car was parked on the roadside. When Harish and his family members were asleep on Monday night, unidentified people damaged the windshield of the car. During inquiry, Harish said the miscreants had also hurled stones at his residence," the officer said.
On Tuesday, Harish lodged a complaint with the Mettupalayam police, who registered a case and initiated an inquiry. Deputy inspector general of police MS Muthusamy, district superintendent of police V Badrinarayanan and deputy superintendent of police Balaji visited the spot.
Three special teams were also formed to probe the incident. The SP said they would take stringent action against the people involved in similar incidents. He said the rural police had deployed 1,400 police personnel and created 58 vehicle check points.
