Coimbatore Central Prison inmate dies

COIMBATORE: A 43-year-old life convict, who was undergoing imprisonment in Coimbatore Central Prison, died of a sudden illness on Thursday night.
The deceased has been identified as P Murugasamy of Udumalpet in Tirupur district. He was arrested under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act in October 2018 for abducting and raping a nine-year-old girl.A mahila court sentenced him to life imprisonment in April 2019.
Prison sources said the man complained of breathing difficulties on Thursday night and used an inhaler. Around 11:30pm, he collapsed.
“After providing first aid in the prison hospital, the man was taken to Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH) where doctors examined him and declared that he had been brought dead,” an official said.
