COIMBATORE: Three burglars who were involved in a series of break-ins and thefts across the city were arrested on Friday. The Aliyar police also recovered 15 sovereigns of stolen gold ornaments from them.
The arrested were identified as A Jayaraj, 33, a tractor driver from Vanjipalayam near Aliyar, R Kavin Kumar, 21, a pickup van driver from Kottur and N Murugavel, 37, a daily wager from Karuppampalayam.
Preliminary inquiry revealed that the masked trio had broken into a farmhouse belonging to Amirtha Gowri at Thuraiyur near Aliyar on August 28 and stolen 15 sovereigns of gold jewellery. Amirtha was away at her son’s house in the city when the burglary took place. They had also burgled another house at Samathur near Kottur in September and stolen 2.5 sovereigns of gold jewellery. The three had also attempted to break open a private bank’s ATM machine at Zamin Kottampatti near Pollachi.
Police traced their identities based on CCTV camera footage collected from the ATM centre and a few more commercial establishments in the locality. The three were remanded in judicial custody on Friday night. Coimbatore rural police have requested the public to contact the district police control room by dialing 94981-81212 and WhatsApp 77081- 00100 to report thefts in the locality.
