CM unveils statue of VOC

Coimbatore: Chief minister M K Stalin unveiled the life-size statue of freedom fighter V O Chidambaranar in the city through videoconferencing from Chennai on Wednesday.The statue has been installed at a cost of 40 lakh at VOC Park, named after the freedom fighter, in the heart of the city. Stalin had announced in the state assembly in 2021 that the statue of VOC, who had spent several years in the Coimbatore prison for taking on the British, would be unveiled in the city.At a function held in Coimbatore to mark the unveiling, VOC’s granddaughter Maragatha Meenakshi Raja participated. Collector Kranti Kumar Pati, mayor Kalpana Anandakumar, city police commissioner V Balakrishnan and city corporation commissioner M Prashanth were present.TNN
