Class IX girl dies by suicide in school hostel near Namakkal

NAMAKKAL: A Class IX girl studying a private school near Paramathi in Namakkal district died by suicide in her hostel room on Sunday night.

The deceased has been identified as G Krithika, 13, of Nallampally in the Dharmapuri district. Her father, V Govindaraj, 43, is a farmer.

Krithika, who is Govindaraj’s eldest daughter, was studying in SKV Educational Institution at Kandampalayam near Paramathi. She went to her hometown on June 26 and returned on Sunday evening. Her father dropped her at the hostel around 7pm.

Krithika hanged herself from the ceiling of the hostel room while her roommates were away. Her body was found when her roommates returned to the room around 9pm. "They informed the school authorities who in turn alerted us," said an officer at the Nallur police station.

The police recovered her body and sent it to the Namakkal Government Medical College and Hospital for postmortem.

Initial inquiries indicated that the student was reluctant to stay in the hostel and continue her studies. “We have registered a case and are investigating," the officer said.
