Coimbatore: The city corporation has set up ‘thanneer pandals’ across the city to distribute water, butter milk and oral rehydration solution (ORS) to help residents cope with rising temperatures.
The pandals have been set up at 33 places, including bus terminals.
Corporation commissioner
M Prathap and mayor
Kalpana Anandakumar inaugurated a pandal at Gandhipuram Town Bus Stand.
They also distributed pamphlets to create awareness about the steps to be taken to beat the heat.
An additional water facility was also set up at the terminal to provide safe drinking water to passengers, a corporation official said. Nurses have been deployed at the pandals.
It is important to stay hydrated in the hot sun, a senior health department official said. “Not all carry water when they step out and it is not easy to find potable water for free. The pandals will meet drinking water requirements. ORS will be provided to those in need. With the city witnessing
harsh summer, residents should ensure that they consume enough liquid,” he said.
