City cop's daughters crushed to death by concrete mixer truck
Coimbatore: Two girls, both daughters of a special sub-inspector (SSI) of police, were crushed to death by a concrete mixer vehicle when they were travelling in a scooter along with their father near a private matriculation school on Madukkarai Market Road here on Monday morning.
The SSI escaped with minor injuries. Police said the girls were being taken to Passport Seva Kendra on Avinashi Road from KG Chavadi for certificate verifications.
The deceased were identified as J Indupriya, 21, who was pursuing BE (electrical and electronics) and her younger sister J Pooja, 19, who was studying third year at a private Ayurveda medical college at KG Chavadi.
The injured SSI has been identified as V Jayaprakash, 50, from KG Chavadi. He was attached to the district crime branch (DCB) police.
On Monday morning, Jayaprakash and his two daughters were travelling towards Pass Seva Kendra on Avinashi Road from KG Chavadi in a scooter. When Jayaprakash tried to overtake a concrete mixer truck near a private matriculation school on Madukkarai Market Road, the truck driver suddenly took a right turn.
So, Jayaprakash lost control over the scooter and rammed the truck.
Meanwhile the trio fell on the road and both his daughters were came under the wheels of the truck. They were run over and died on the spot. Jayaprakash sustained minor injuries.
The locals informed 108 ambulance services and the city police also. A team of police rushed to the spot and sent the bodies to Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) for post-mortem.
After the post-mortem, the bodies were handed over to the relatives of the deceased. Meanwhile, Traffic Investigation Wing (TIW-West) police registered a case against the truck driver R Veluchamy, 51, of Madukkarai Market under Sections 304(A), 279 and 337 of the IPC and arrested him on Monday evening.
Later, he was remanded in judicial custody.
