Sukesh

, the

prime accused

in the election commission (EC) bribery case, and his father Chandrasekar for duping a city-based

furniture businessman

of Rs 2.40 lakh here on Thursday.

Sukesh was escorted to the city from Tihar jail in Delhi in a train and he was produced before the Judicial Magistrate Court-II on Thursday. His father also appeared before the court, which framed charges levelled against them.

Sukesh denied the charges and the court adjourned the hearing for August 3. His counsel said Sukesh was a minor when the offense occurred and the case trial should be conducted before the juvenile justice board.

Sukesh Balaji alias Balaji, of Bhavani Nagar in Bengaluru, cheated furniture shop owner B Rajavel, 40, of Ganapathy here of Rs 2.40 lakh by introducing himself as joint secretary Prakash from Karnataka chief minister’s office. Sukesh offered to award a tender to supply furniture to Rajavel for Rs 2.40 lakh.

A duped Rajavel, registered a police compliant and the cybercrime cell of the city police arrested Sukesh and his father Chandrasekar of in 2011. The police registered a case against the duo under Sections 420, 170 and 109 of Indian Penal Code and 66 (d) of the Information Technology Act.

After the court proceedings, he was escorted back to the Tihar jail by Delhi police.
