Coimbatore: City police commissioner V Balakrishnan on Saturday unveiled the plans to install a CCTV camera at every 50 metres in public places to enhance the surveillance system.
Unveiling 32 CCTV cameras that Geniies IT and Services Private Limited set up at Nandha Nagar in Singanallur police station limits, the city top cop requested the residential welfare associations, traders’ associations and industrial associations to set up more CCTV cameras in their areas.
The CCTC cameras at Nandha Nagar would help enhance the surveillance system at Rajaganapathy Nagar, Lakshmanan Nagar, KPR Layout, Nandha Road, Thirukumaran Nagar, SNT Layout and a few more areas.
The police commissioner said CCTV cameras would also help in prevention and detection of crimes.
On complaints of transgenders harassing the public, Balakrishnan said they had conducted a meeting with the transgenders recently and advised them not to disturb the public. “If transgenders were found violating the law, they would be booked and stringent action would be taken. Six transgenders have approached the home guard to make them part of the group. Steps are taken to include them with the home guard.”
The event was attended by deputy police commissioner (south) N Silambarasan, assistant police commissioner M G Arun, Singanallur police inspector P Arun and managing director of Geniies IT and Services Private Limited Devaraj Palanisamy.
