Car blast will not deter Coimbatore’s IT growth: Minister
COIMBATORE: Minister for information technology and digital services Mano Thangaraj on Monday expressed hope that the recent car blast would not deter growth of the IT sector in Coimbatore.
Speaking to reporters here, the minister alleged that a section of people was attempting to hamper the law and order in society by indulging in such incidents. Thangaraj said chief minister M K Stalin had zero tolerance towards terrorism and violence. He said the state government was not compromising in the enforcement of law and order.
"Coimbatore has potential with the presence of infrastructure, opportunity, and educational institutions. No one can deter the growth of the IT industry as the state government is keen on facilitating the growth in tier-two and tier-three cities," he said.
Talking about the IT growth year on year, Mano Thangaraj said the industry in Coimbatore was currently witnessing the development of about 20% compared to 8% to 10% earlier.
Furthermore, he said the target of the 30% development would enable the vision of the state government to become a one trillion dollar economy.
With an IT park currently under construction by ELCOT in Coimbatore, the minister said that his department would come up with new schemes for the city once the completion of existing projects.
The minister delivered a keynote address in the 'Conclave of professionals on emerging trends in professional practices' at PSGR Krishnammal College for Women.
