Calendar released to mark 200 yrs of Nilgiris

Udhagamandalam: Marking the bicentenary of the modern Nilgiris,Nilgiri Documentation Centre (NDC) has released a calendar. The NDC stated that the calendar is dedicated to the memory of late chief minister J Jayalalithaa who had a special love for Nilgiris and had contributed significantly for its conservation and promotion.
Releasing the calendar district collector J Innocent Divya said, “We could see the good old Nilgiris through the old photographs in the calendar. It will act as an eye opener to the younger generation to know about the importance of the hills and its ecology.” She added that, “Only when they get to know the history of the Nilgiris, the next generation will dedicate themselves in saving this beautiful biosphere.”
The calendar gives the 200 years of history of modern Nilgiris in a concise and understandable way. NDC director Dharmalingam Venugopal said, “The calendar is intended to generate a sense of belonging and responsibility among the Nilgiris people to the district.”tnn
