Businessman injured after gun misfires

Erode: A Gobichettipalayam-based jewellery shop owner sustained a head injury after his licensed pistol misfired while he was cleaning it on Wednesday.
Police identified him as G D Sekar, 63, owner of Dhamu Chettiyar Nagai Maligai.
Family members rushed to Sekar’s room after hearing gunfire on Wednesday morning, his son S Abilash, 35, told reporters. “We saw him lying in a pool of blood and rushed him to the Kovai Medical Center and Hospital (KMCH) in Coimbatore, where he underwent a surgery. Doctors said the bullet missed the brain. He's recovering well after the surgery.”
Senior police officers, including Gobichettipalayam DSP S Thangavel, inspected the scene. “Sekar had suffered a stroke 15 days ago and was under medication,” district SP G Jawahar told TOI.
Sekar used to clean the gun at least once a week, Abilash added.
The Gobichettipalayam police have initiated an inquiry into the incident.
