P Kumar from Itchipatti near Karumathampatti had tried to set himself as well as his minor son ablaze at the district police office after Mohanraj, his employer, allegedly cheated him.
“He was working as a car driver at the jewellery shop. After shop owner Mohanraj requested him to arrange Rs 10 lakh, Kumar had borrowed the money from various people and gave it to Mohanraj in 2015. But, Mohanraj refused to return the amount or the interest. He and Prakash also threatened Kumar with dire consequences when he demanded the money,” a police officer said.
