COIMBATORE:
Bharathiar University
has been given the India Research Excellence – Citation Award 2019 for having the most number of
highly cited papers
in the period 2012-2018 among state universities in the country.
University officials said the award was presented in New Delhi on Friday.
Members of the vice-chancellor committee N Jeyakumar and P Thirunavukkarasu, along with the registrar in-charge of the university K Murugan, received the award at an event where officials from the department of science and technology and University Grants Commission were present.
The award was given by Web of Science Group, a global citation database. “They had assessed online the citations of research papers of universities across India and have selected Bharathiar University among state universities for publishing the most number of papers which were highly cited,” said Thiruvanukkarasu.
The award citation read: “Bharathiar University has the highest number of highly cited papers and (has been) ranked 3rd on the percentage of documents in top 10% in the given award category for the period 2012-2018. Majority of its highly cited papers are from the area of natural sciences and engineering and technology.”
The awards were given under categories such as state universities, central universities, deemed universities and colleges.
