'Believes he has superpowers': College student jumps from fourth floor of hostel in Coimbatore

A 19-year-old BTech student from Karpagam College of Engineering in Coimbatore believed he had superpowers and jumped off the fourth floor of his hostel. He sustained severe fractures and head injuries. The student was first given aid at a local hospital and then transferred to Ganga Hospital for further treatment.

COIMBATORE: A 19-year-old youth, a BTech student, believed he had superpowers and jumped off the fourth floor of the students' hostel located on the premises of Karpagam College of Engineering at Myleripalayam near Malumichampatti in Coimbatore district on Monday evening. He sustained fractures to his legs and hands and also suffered injuries to his head. He was admitted to a private hospital for treatment.
The injured person was identified as A Prabhu, 19, from Mekkur village near Perundurai in Erode district. He was studying in the third year of BTech (Artificial Intelligence and Data Science) at the college and was staying at the college hostel.
Police said Prabhu believed he had superpowers like superheroes and could jump from any building. He often talked about the superpowers to his roommates. He also told his friends and roommates that someone had performed sorcery on him and he would be affected by the black magic in last week.
On Monday around 6.30pm, he was on the fourth floor of the students' hostel, and a group of students were chatting with each other on the veranda of the hostel.
Prabhu suddenly jumped off the fourth floor and directly hit the ground. He sustained severe fractures to his hands and legs and suffered injuries to his head. Other students of the hostel rushed him to Karpagam Hospital at Othakkalmandapam on the city outskirts, where he was given first aid. Immediately, he was shifted to Ganga Hospital in Coimbatore city, where he is undergoing treatment.
