An additional special judge for CBI cases in Coimbatore has awarded one year rigorous imprisonment and a fine of 2000 to an employee of State Bank of India in Krishnagiri district for accepting bribe to release an agricultural debt waiver.

COIMBATORE: An additional special judge for CBI cases in Coimbatore has awarded one year rigorous imprisonment and a fine of 2000 to an employee of State Bank of India in Krishnagiri district for accepting bribe to release an agricultural debt waiver. Delivering the final verdict on a case filed by the CBI on July 30, 2008, judge V Ramasamy found B A Sampathkumar, a special assistant with the bank, guilty of seeking bribe from a farmer.
The case against Sampathkumar was registered after a complaint filed by K V Narayanan, from Kandhikuppam village in Kamaraj Nagar of Krishnagiri district. As per the complaint, Sampath Kumar, who was working as cash officer of the bank at Elathagiri, had demanded 3,000 from him for releasing an eligible relief amount of 20,000 under the Agriculture Debt Waiver and Debt Relief Scheme of 2008.
Acting swiftly on the complaint, CBI had laid a trap against Sampathkumarand he was was caught red-handed.
