COIMBATORE: Members of DMK and All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) staged protests in Pollachi on Monday, demanding the arrest of the mastermind behind the college student harassment case,
Thirunavukkarasu, who is still at large. They also urged police to bring the political functionaries involved in the case to justice as well.
In February, the Pollachi police had arrested three people for harassing a college girl student in a running car and taking video of the incident.
Preliminary inquiry, however, revealed that Thirunavukkarasu was the mastermind of the gang and his farm house near Anaimalai was used to gangrape women and videograph the same to extort money from victims by blackmailing them.
Subsequently, three special teams were formed to nab Thirunavukkarasu, who is on the run. On Monday, DMK cadres laid siege to the office of the Pollachi sub-collector to protest the delay in nabbing the main accused and later petitioned the officials. They demanded stringent action against Thirunavukkarasu and political leaders involved in the case.
Meanwhile, AIDWA members staged a protest at the Thiruvalluvar maidan in Pollachi and raised slogans against the accused.
Kongu Nadu Makkal Desiya Katchi also staged a demonstration on Pollachi-Palladam road and its general secretary Eswaran sought to transfer the case to CBI as political functionaries were involved in the case.
