Allegation of sexual harassment of school students near Coimbatore: Police interrogate minor girl's mother

COIMBATORE: The Perur all-women police in Coimbatore district interrogated the mother of a student on Saturday after a video surfaced in which the student alleged sexual harassment by teachers at a govt school near Kinathukadavu.

A group of govt school students near Kinathukadavu in Coimbatore district reported in a video that they had been sexually harassed by two teachers in the school. After the video went viral on Friday, the police and the education department launched an investigation into the incident.

A team of police, including six women inspectors, interrogated over 250 students of the school on Friday. No student reported that they had faced sexual harassment by the two teachers. Following this, the police inquired about the person who recorded the video of the girls alleging sexual harassment. It was revealed that the mother of one of the girls, who spoke in the video, had recorded it with the help of her brother.

Subsequently, the police summoned the girl’s mother to appear before them for inquiry on Friday.

When she appeared for the inquiry, she stated, "I don't have any personal issues with the teachers. Girl students have been facing this problem for a long time. I reported the issue to the school management and the Child Helpline. Since no action was taken, I recorded a video and circulated it online to seek action against those who misbehaved with the students."

Police sources said that the investigation was under way, and they could confirm the genuineness of the incident only after a detailed investigation.
