The duo was busy with the sales on Sunday night when Lakshmi's grandson Muruganandam came there and demanded money to buy liquor.
When they refused to give him money, Muruganandam got angry and asked them to buy him food at least. When they again refused, Muruganandam took a wooden log and started to beat them. Muruganandam beat his grandmother Lakshmi and when she shouted for help, Rangaraj tried to save her. But Muruganandam attacked Rangaraj and snatched money from his grandmother and fled the scene.
The public informed the RS Puram police and the victims were taken to Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH). Failing to respond to the treatment, Rangaraj died at the hospital late Sunday night. Lakshmi, who sustained multiple injuries on head, is undergoing treatment.
