7 held for stealing sandalwood

Coimbatore: Forest department officials on Thursday arrested seven people for stealing a sandalwood tree from a land at Periyanaickenpalayam. K Thirumalaisamy, 53, of Ammankulam, and V Gunaseelan, 40, of Avvai Nagar in Naickenpalayam, had cut down the tree from a government land in Gudalur village. A special team of the forest department arrested the duo and seized four sandalwood pieces from them. The team also arrested V Sudhagar, 33, K Saravanan, 33, P Ramesh,28, K Govindasamy, 43, and P Ilavarasan, 30, of Olympus in Ramanathapuram. TNN
