COIMBATORE: The govt railway police in Coimbatore on Tuesday seized 55 kg of ganja from an express train and arrested three natives of West Bengal on charges of smuggling the contraband.
A special team of Coimbatore railway police on Tuesday afternoon boarded the Vivek Express train, going from Dibrugarh to Kanyakumari. The team boarded the train at Tirupur railway station and conducted a search of the passengers’ bags.
The team found ganja in an unreserved general compartment of the train. Inquiries revealed that S Palash Mondal, 24, N Mithun Sarkar, 26, and D Rohit Das, 25, of Murshidabad were smuggling ganja from West Bengal to sell it in Coimbatore.
The trio and the ganja were handed over to the Narcotics Intelligence Bureau - Criminal Investigation Department, which registered a case and began investigations.
