5 rly stations in Salem division bag ISO-14001 certification

Salem: Five major railway stations in Salem division have obtained ISO-14001 certification. Divisional railway manager U Subba Rao issued the certificates to the station masters of Salem, Karur, Erode, Tirupur and Mettupalayam at an event held in his office chamber on Wednesday evening.

Talking to the media, he said the Salem, Karur, Erode, Tirupur and Mettupalayam railway stations obtained the ISO-14001 certification for complying with national green tribunal (NGT) directives.

He said the Salem division was the first ever division in the Southern Railway to get the ISO certification for all the major stations.

The certification was given away after water audit to see the efforts taken by the stations to minimize water consumption, energy audit to identify steps taken to reduce energy consumption and drive to check implementation of solid waste management, among other things.
