She was admitted on October 3 with fever and died on October 5 at 8.15 pm, when her condition deteriorated to sepsis and finally respiratory failure.
The other patients, 20-year-old Vanishree, 10-year-old Karanya and eight-year-old Sathyavathi hailed from Tirupur. Karanya, who was suffering from meningo encephalitis, was admitted on September 23 and died on Thursday evening, said hospital officials. Vanishree, who was shifted from Dharapuram Government Hospital at 7.27 pm on Thursday, died around 12.15am on Friday again of encephalitis. Sathyavathy’s death was attributed to hypotension shock after viral fever.
Meanwhile, district collector T N Hariharan inspected the government hospital on Friday morning as part of the state government’s efforts to monitor the vector borne disease.
He inspected the fever ward and the dengue ward and enquired on the treatment being given to the patients and also interacted with the patients to assess the treatment being given to them and the seriousness of their condition.
CMCH, which is the tertiary care hospital for the western region, had around 191 fever patients and just nine dengue cases. He again checked if all the beds in both wards were covered with mosquito nets on all four sides to prevent spread of the virus. “The collector asked doctors different modes of treatment being given to viral fever and dengue patients, and checked if they have adequate stock of medical equipment, blood and platelets to be able to give transfusions,” said a statement from the district administration.
The collector also spoke to all the patients in the dengue ward and asked them how they felt. “He asked them which areas and districts they were from, the treatment being given to them and how they were feeling,” said the statement. They were around 20 patients in the dengue ward on Friday, said officials.
