3 arrested for smuggling 110kg ganja

Coimbatore: The city police arrested three people, including a woman, on Monday evening and seized 110kg ganja from them. Police also seized the car used to smuggle the contraband.

A special team led by sub-inspector Kandasamy had received a tip off about the narcotics smuggling. The team conducted a vehicle check on Codissia Road and stopped a car and found ganja in 55 bundles, each weighing 2kg. The three occupants of the vehicle were taken to the Peelamedu police station.

The trio was identified as Eswari, 43, wife of Selvam and P Sakthi, 49, both hailing from Muthupatti in Madurai district, and A Ashokkumar, 31, from Perumanallur. “They had bought the contraband from Padagiri Hills in Andhra Pradesh and were smuggling it into the city in Ashokkumar’s car,” a police officer said.

The trio was booked under sections of NDPS act. They will be produced before the court on Tuesday morning. TNN
