2 siblings drown in well in Tirupur

Coimbatore: A 40-year-old woman and her 45-year-old brother drowned in an open well at Devarayampalayam village near Palladam in Tirupur district on Saturday. The deceased were identified as R Sundaram from Devarayampalayam near Itchipatti in Mangalam and his sister Sagunthala, 40, from Samalapuram near Palladam in Tirupur district.

The Mangalam police said Sagunthala was a person with learning difficulties for the last 21 years. She married Chinnadurai and the couple has two daughters. Her elder brother Sundaram was unmarried and was working in a power loom unit. On Saturday evening, Sagunthala jumped into a well located 20 feet away from her residence. Her brother also jumped into the well to rescue her. However, the siblings drowned in the well.

Palladam fire and rescue services personnel retrieved the bodies. TNN
