COIMBATORE: District collector Archana Patnaik has ordered the detention of two people on Saturday under the Goondas Act for murdering an auto rickshaw driver in Pollachi a few weeks ago.
M Subha alias Subhakar, 29, from Palakkad road in Pollachi and his friend P Anthony Simson, 33, from Anaimalai were arrested for murdering auto driver Ashokan, 41, from Amaithi Nagar near Pollachi, in a house on June 29.
Two more people were also arrested in connection with the case. All are behind bars at Coimbatore central prison.
After inquiry, police came to know that Subhakar and Anthony Simson were involved in various assault and other atrocities in Pollachi and surrounding areas. Pollachi East police sent a detailed report about the duo to the district collector a few days ago. Based on the report, the collector slapped Goondas Act on them. The order was issued to the two prisoners on Saturday at Coimbatore central prison.
Police said that Ashokan's friend Ragupathi from Pollachi had previous enmity with Subhakar. Ashokan beat Subhakar as he attempted to stop a physical fight between the duo. Following the incident, Subakar, his three friends Premkumar, Mathivanan and Anthony Simson waylaid the auto driver at Valliyammal Layout in Pollachi and took him to a house where he was stabbed to death.
