1,089 corpn sanitary workers to undergo master health check-up

Coimbatore: Mayor Kalpana Anandakumar on Monday inaugurated an initiative to conduct master health check-ups to 1,089 sanitary workers of the south zone at a private hospital in Ramanathapuram.
Around 15-20 workers will undergo check-up at GEM Hospital every day. After sanitary workers, councillors and officials from the south zone will undergo master health check-ups, said a corporation official.
Corporation commissioner M Prathap said the sanitary workers play an important role in keeping the city clean and their productivity will increase only when they are healthy.
“The health check-up would cover blood tests, urine test, heart check-up and other standard tests. Women would be screened for uterus cancer. The tests would help to find health issues in the early stage and treat them.”
The corporation has already launched such initiatives in east and central zones. All 7,300 sanitary workers with the corporation would be covered in the programme.
Corporation deputy commissioner K Sivakumar, central zone chairman Meena Loganathan and chairman of GEM Hospital C Palanivelu were present at the event.
