1.5kg ganja seized from 4 men

The city police arrested four ganja peddlers

including a college student

, on Thursday and seized 1.5kg of the contraband from them.

A team led by Ramanathapuram (D1) police sub-inspector S Gnanasekaran conducted vehicle check on Sungam Bypass Road near Bishop Ambrose College after receiving a tip-off and stopped three men on a motorcycle. Police seized 1.25kg ganja from C Kesavan, 22, of Anumandhampatty, A Ramkumar, 20, of Uthamapalayam in Theni district and D Sudalaimani, 31, of Krishnapuram in Coimbatore city.

“Kesavan is a BBA graduate. Ramkumar is a IInd year BBA student in Theni. Sudalaimani was working as a CNC machine operator at Ganapathy here. Kesavan, who had worked with Sudalaimani, decided to sell ganja to make some quick cash. Kesavan and Ramkumar bought ganja from Theni and were transporting it to the city. They picked up Sudalaimani from Ukkadam and were on the way to supply it to some college students,” a police officer said.

Police seized the ganja, motorcycle, two mobile phones and Rs 2,000 from the trio. They were booked under sections 8 (c ), 20 (b) (ii) (B) and 25 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 and remanded in judicial custody at the Coimbatore Central Prison.

Saravanampatti police sub-inspector P Bharathiraja and team apprehended A Palanibabu, 19, of Arasur in Cuddalore district for possession of 300g ganja from Sankara College Junction – Thudiyalur Road on Thursday evening. He was lodged in the central prison.
