1.5 tonnes of banned tobacco seized

Tirupur: The Palladam police on Thursday arrested four people for possession of 1.5 tonnes of banned tobacco products.
Inspector R Gopalakrishnan and team raided a godown, owned by S Muthukumar, 42, of Pannaikattuthottam, after receiving a tip-off.
Police seized the contraband stored there, worth 4 lakh. and arrested C Udhayakumar, 42, K Moorthi, 39 and S Sivaperumal, 19, of Tuticorin district and Muthukumar.Kumar of Tuticorin is absconding.
They were booked under sections 273, 328 of the IPC and sections 7 (1), 20 (2) of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products (Prohibition of Advertisement and Regulation of Trade and Commerce, Production, Supply and Distribution) Act, 2003. They were remanded in judicial custody.
