CHENNAI: A man
stabbed
his friend in a dispute that erupted during
Diwali celebrations in Nochi Kuppam on Monday.
Police said the deceased, 24-year-old C Karthik, was a resident of Mayandi Colony in Royapettah. On Sunday night, Karthik had gone to Nochi Kuppam to celebrate Diwali with his friends, including the accused, Boobalan. During the celebrations, Karthik and Boobalan got in an argument. Boobalan snatched Karthik’s mobile phone and left for his house.
Other friends told Karthik to visit Boobalan the next morning to get his cellphone back. On Monday morning, Karthik went to Boobalan’s house in Nochi Nagar,
Mylapore
, and asked for his mobile.
“Boobalan stabbed Karthik multiple times using a knife and fled the spot,” said a police officer. Neighbours sent Karthik to Government Royapettah Hospital and alerted police. He was later moved to Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival. The Mylapore police registered a case and are on the lookout for Boobalan.
