‘Yoga, naturopathy admissions soon after Class XII results’

Chennai: The admission to yoga and naturopathy courses will begin soon after Class XII results are announced by the school education department as admission to these courses isn’t dependent on NEET score, health minister Ma Subramanian said on Tuesday.
Administrators of 17 colleges met the minister to discuss issues regarding the admission process. “They told us that several seats in these colleges were wasted as admissions, which should be completed by August, were being delayed until February,” he said. The schedules for yoga and naturopathy counselling were pushed after NEET was made mandatory for undergraduate courses in siddha, ayurveda, unani, and homeopathy.
The admission to Indian medicine and homeopathy courses begins after three rounds of counselling for MBBS/BDS in the state. “We don’t have to wait that long for admission to yoga and naturopathy courses since students don’t have to clear NEET to join these courses,” he said.
The state will create awareness about the benefits of yoga and naturopathy among people to encourage students to join these courses, he said. He also asked management of private colleges to advertise the course and career options before students, he said.
