VILLUPURAM: A 30-year-old woman and her three children were charred to
death in a hut at Keezhakondur in Villupuram district of Tamil Nadu. The hut they were living in was gutted.
Police suspect that Dhanalakshmi committed suicide by setting herself and her three sons -- Kandeeshwaran, 7, Vishnupriyan, 4, and Rudhran, 9 months old -- on fire after a quarrel with her husband, Ilango.
Police said Ilango had an extramarital affair with a woman in Villupuram. After a quarrel with him over this issue, Dhanalakshmi came to her father-in-law Ramasamy’s house at Keezhakondur on Sunday.
On Wednesday morning, when Ramasamy and his wife Vengammal were not at home, neighbours found that the house was on fire. They alerted fire and rescue services department.
Before the fire fighters reached the spot, the house was gutted and the woman and her children had died.
The Tirukovilur police registered a case and were conducting inquiries with Ilango’s parents.
Tirukovilur DSP Magesh told TOI, “We suspect Ilango has a role in the deaths of his family members. We are searching for him.”
