Woman, son die after bus rams bike

Chennai: An elderly woman and her son died after a speeding omnibus hit their bike at Maraimalai Nagar in Chengalpet on Wednesday.According to police, the incident occurred at 9.45 am. The deceased have been identified as R Saravanan,47, and his mother Thilagavathy, 67, of Maraimalai Nagar. Saravanan was taking his mother to a hospital. They took a U-turn near the municipality office and were riding towards the city when the accident took place.A private bus which came from behind hit their vehicle and ran over them. Saravanan died on the spot and his mother who was critically injured was rushed to a private hospital where she was declared dead on arrival. Their bodies were sent to Government General Hospital Chengalpattu for postmortem. Police registered a case and are searching for the driver of the bus.
