Woman murdered in Thiruvanmiyur

CHENNAI: In a suspected murder-for-gain case, a 60-year-old woman was found beaten to death at an apartment complex in Thiruvanmiyur on Wednesday night.
Mallika, of 7th Cross Street, Thiruvanmiyur, was a domestic help at the apartment. Residents who found her lying in the parking area alerted the police.
Police who initially registered a case under IPC Section 174 (suspicious death) later changed it to murder after initial postmortem report suggested that the woman had been beaten to death.
The woman had deep injuries on her head. “We recovered a wooden log from the scene of crime,” said a senior police officer.
Sources said miscreants could have beaten her to death while trying to enter the complex to attempt robbery.
