CUDDALORE: A 55-year-old woman sustained injuries when she fell on the road from a Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) bus after the seat she was sitting on detached from the vehicle’s floor, near Cuddalore on Friday.
Police said C Thaiyalnayagi, wife of K Chandran, 75, boarded the Chidambaram-bound bus from Samiyarpettai. She sat on a seat near the footboard. When the bus crossed Pudupettai, the seat detached from the bus’s floor. She fell on the road along with the seat through the footboard. Other passengers raised an alarm, and the driver stopped the bus.
The woman, who sustained a fracture on her left arm, was rushed to Rajah Muthiah Govt Medical College and Hospital at Chidambaram. She was given first aid and referred to Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) in Puducherry for advanced treatment.
The Parangipettai police registered a case against the temporary driver A Hariharan, 30, under sections 281 (rash driving or riding on a public way) and 125 (a) (act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the BNS and began inquiries.
