Woman electrocuted near Tiruvallur

CHENNAI: A 44-year-old woman was electrocuted near Tiruvallur on Tuesday night while trying to knock down lemons from a tree using an iron rod.

The deceased woman has been identified as Lokeshwari of Varadapuram. She went to the terrace of her house to pluck lemons. She used an iron rod to knock down lemons from the tree. The rod came in contact with an overhead livewire. Lokeshwari, who suffered an electric shock, died on the spot.

The body was sent to the Tiruvallur Govt Hospital for postmortem.

The Tiruvallur taluk police registered a case.

Locals alleged that despite repeated requests, Tangedco officials failed to address the danger of overhead power cables which, they said, should be replaced with underground wires for public safety.
