VELLORE: The additional district and sessions court (fast track court) in
Vellore
on Wednesday sentenced a 55-year-old
woman
, her
daughter
and a
relative
for murdering a 45-year-old man.
Judge V R Latha found D Muniyammal , her daughter Durga Devi, 34, and their relative Chakravarthi , all native of Melmnagkuppam village near K V Kuppam, guilty of murdering Jayavel of the same village last year.
The court awarded double lifer for D Muniyammal and Chakravarthi under sections 120 B (Criminal conspiracy) and 302 (murder) of the IPC and slapped a fine of Rs 5,000 each and awarded a life imprisonment for Durga Devi under Section 109 of the IPC for abetting the
murder. The double life term would run concurrently, said public prosecutor (PP) A Dilli Babu.
Muniyammal had an illegal relationship with Jayavel after the demise of her husband 13 years ago. Jayavel had insisted that Muniyammal’s daughter should have a physical relationship with him. Though Muniyammal had dissuaded him, he tried to force himself on her on several occasions. In 2011, Devi and her husband assaulted him for trying to misbehave with him, the K V Kuppam police filed a case.
He, however, continued to misbehave with Devi. Unable to withstand the Jayavel’s attitude, Devi decided to eliminate Jayavel. As per Devi’s plan, Muniyammal and her relative Chakravarthi lured Jayavel to a water body on the outskirt of the village during the late hours of May 5, 2015 and strangled him.
