Woman, boyfriend arrested for murdering husband

CHENNAI: Police claimed to have solved the May 5 murder of a 35-year-old worker in Sriperumbudur with the arrest of his wife and her boyfriend on Friday. R Rathi, 32, and Rajasekar, 23, confessed to committing the murder and were sent to jail.
Police narrowed down on the accused, alerted by Rathi’s mysterious behaviour after her husband’s death. Rajasekar, a distant relative of Rathi’s husband Ramu, lived in the same village, and often visited their house.Preliminary inquiries revealed that Rathi had been close to Rajasekar since he was in Class 9 and the two continued their affair. Ramu caught them together a few months ago, police said.
On May 5, after Ramu fell asleep under the influence of alcohol, Rathi invited Rajasekar home. The youth, who worked in a private plastic manufacturing unit, slashed Ramu’s neck with a knife and fled. Rathi locked the door and when she came out claimed that someone had broken into the house and killed her husband. Ramu was taken to the government hospital in Sriperumbudur where he was declared dead on arrival. Ramu and Rathi have three daughters and a son, police said.
