Will modernise police force: New Tamil Nadu DGP Shankar Jiwal
CHENNAI: Shankar Jiwal, who took charge as the head of the Tamil Nadu police on Friday, said his priorities include enhancing the functioning of the force by introducing new technologies.
Addressing journalists after taking charge at the police headquarters here, Jiwal said the law-and-order situation in the state is reasonably good. “By introducing new technologies, we will enhance the law-and-order situation further,” he said.
“In the past two years, the number of deaths on city roads has come down. We will identify the accident hotspots and try to reduce it further. Apart from this, the Chennai police have introduced many new schemes. We will try to implement these schemes throughout the state,” he added.
Earlier, the former DGP, C Sylendra Babu, was given a grand farewell at the state police headquarters. Police personnel pulled his car for a distance of 20 feet with a rope, a customary ritual for retiring senior IPS officers. The government also held a farewell parade for him at the RR Stadium in Egmore.

Chief minister M K Stalin extended warm wishes to outgoing chief secretary V Irai Anbu and Sylendra Babu.
“Let us extend our heartfelt congratulations to Irai Anbu IAS and Sylendra Babu IPS on their retirement after spending decades of unblemished service! These exceptional officers have served Tamil Nadu with unwavering dedication. Their approach and tireless efforts have brought about significant positive changes, leaving a lasting impact on our administration and inspiration to young bureaucrats,” Stalin tweeted.
‘Will continue schemes of my predecessors’

Rathore said, “I thank chief minister for giving me this opportunity. I will continue all the schemes and programmes introduced by my predecessors. This will be my priority. I request all your support.”
