Palaniswami was reacting to a statement made by BJP leader Nainar Nagendran.

Earlier, when a reporter asked Nagendran if there were chances of BJP becoming close with AIADMK again, Nagendran had said, "It would bring happiness if we were close with each other."

On Friday, responding to a question by a reporter in Tirunelveli who asked about Nagendran’s statement, EPS said there was no use of him (Nagendran) wishing that BJP and AIADMK would come together again.

EPS said AIADMK had never been a slave to dominance.

"We cannot accept our party leaders being criticised. We will never accept people who demean us. Self-respect is very important to us," he said.

"First they criticised Amma (J Jayalalithaa). When we opposed it, they criticised Anna (C N Annadurai)," he said.

Palaniswami went on to add that no person with a conscience would accept it.

"We faced parliamentary elections alone. We have our own policies. Self-respect is very important to us. That is how our leaders nurtured us," he said.
