W20 policy draft to be released today

Chennai: The policy recommendations of the W20, the official G20 engagement group focused on gender equity, including five priority areas for women’s empowerment will be released on Thursday.W20 chair Dr Sandhya Perucha told reporters in Mamallapuram on Wednesday that women entrepreneurs, leadership at grassroot level, bridging gender digital divide, education and skill development and women and girls as change makers for climate resilience and action are the key areas.To prepare the document on women’s economic empowerment, she said they interacted with 75,000 women in 15 states.Later, an interactive session with rural women, most of who had access to National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM), showed how they had scaled heights they themselves thought impossible.Shobana Rani of Telangana, a child bride, spoke of how, by forming her SHG, she had provided her husband with a bigger income, learned Hindi and became a resource person for the NRLM, touching and changing the lives of women across the country.tnn
