CHENNAI: In his first visit as
Vice-President to Tamil Nadu
,
Venkaiah Naidu indirectly condemned the
violence in Haryana over the conviction of Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, at a function in
Anna University on Sunday.
In the mindless violence where buses and trains were torched, similar to what we saw in the last few days, it is the people who are affected the most, Naidu said, advocating non-violence.
Naidu was in the city to inaugurate an exhibition ‘New India-we resolve to make’ which marks 75 years of the Quit India movement. Union parliamentary affairs minister Ananth Kumar, TN fisheries minister D Jayakumar and higher education minister K P Anbalagan were part of the event.
During an interaction with students, Naidu also invoked his pet themes of improving farmer incomes, bridging the urban-rural divide and eradicating poverty.
