CHENNAI: Calling the death of Indian student, Naveen Shekharappa of Karnataka, in Ukraine as “unfortunate”, Tamil Nadu BJP president K Annamalai on Tuesday said the Centre has been taking all efforts to ensure the safe return of students hailing from Tamil Nadu.
He urged the students, their parents and the public to wait patiently and expressed confidence of their safe return.
“The Central government has intensified its measures to bring back the students safely. So, I am requesting everyone not to panic. All the students will return safely,” said Annamalai in a statement.
He appealed to the public to extend cooperation to the Centre’s efforts.
Since the students were stuck in a conflict zone, particularly in Kharkiv city, there has been a hindrance to carry out evacuation exercises, said Annamalai citing his telephonic conversation with Union minister of state for external affairs V Muraleedharan.
The Central government sent four ministers to the neighbouring countries of Ukraine to facilitate the safe return of the students. Except India, no other country, including the US, China and Germany, have taken up such rescue operations.
