Two workers die in TN fireworks unit blast

VIRUDHUNAGAR: Two workers died and two others sustained severe injuries in a blast in a fireworks manufacturing unit at Vachakarapatti in Virudhunagar district of Tamil Nadu on Wednesday.

The deceased have been identified as P Kaliraj,20, of Kanniseripudur and K Veerakumar,50, of Mudalipatti.

S Saravanakumar of Kanniseripudur and S Sundaramoorthy of Inamreddiyapatti who sustained 90% and 70% burns injuries respectively were admitted to Virudhunagar Government Medical College Hospital.

The blast occurred in a fireworks unit named Thalamuthu Fireworks at Vachakarapatti when workers were mixing chemicals required for manufacturing crackers. Three working sheds collapsed.

On being informed, fire and rescue services personnel rushed to the spot and doused the fire.

The Vachakarapatti police were investigating.
