CHENNAI: Two women were killed when a truck rear-ended the car in which they were travelling near Padappai early on Saturday.
The two women were travelling in the back seat and were crushed to death, while the driver and the person sitting next to him escaped with injuries.
Police said the four people went to Kancheepuram to worship Athi Varadar and were returning when the accident occurred.
The deceased were identified as Ragavi, 23, of Peraiyur, and Divyadarshini, 27, of Erode.
The injured were identified as Vignesh, 24, of Pallikaranai, and Damodharan, 25, of Madurai.
Police said Damodharan was driving the car. The truck, which was coming behind the car, smashed into it near Keezh Padappai on Wallajahbad-Vandalur road.
In the impact, Damodharan lost control of the vehicle and the car rammed the median and overturned, while the truck sped away.
On information, the Manimangalam police rushed to the spot sent the victims to a government hospital, where doctors declared Ragavi and Divyadarshini dead on arrival. The other two underwent treatment at the hospital. A police team was searching for the truck.
