Two teens on bike snatch gold chain from woman

CHENNAI: Two teenagers on a bike on Friday snatched a gold chain from a woman in broad daylight, when she was walking with her daughterin J J Nagar, and escaped.
The victim identified as Sumithra, 38, was returning home after picking her daughter up from school when she was robbed. Sumithra, who runs a cell phone shop, is a resident of Mogappair East.The incident was caught on a CCTV camera on Thiruvallur Road and shows the duo, who seem to be in their early 20s, following the victim on a bike before the pillion rider snatched her chain, taking Sumithra by surprise.
"The woman made futile attempts to hold on to her chain," an investigating officer said. Sumithra suffered minor injuries, police said. She was treated at a private hospital in Mogappair before lodging a formal complaint at the police station. Police began investigations and procured the CCTV footage from a shop nearby. Police said that the faces of the two men were clearly visible on camera as was the registration number of the bike. "We have also passed on the grabs from the footage to other police stations to identify the duo," an officer said.
